Page 09: He Makes a Way

I love celebrating my friends’ birthdays, and I love when God shows up at their celebrations. A few weeks ago I celebrated my sweet friend Tori’s birthday with some of our other friends. She wanted to go to the rodeo and dinner, so that’s what we did. But let me back up. We drove to Fort Worth, found decent parking and decided to walk by a few of the nearby shops before purchasing our tickets.

We were standing in line - the second group of people - when a sign on the ticket window was put up saying, “Tonight’s Rodeo is Sold Out.” Wait, what? I didn’t realize the rodeo was such a popular thing. We stood there in disbelief and frustrated because we had an opportunity purchased tickets before walking to the shops, but didn't because surely they'd still be available. Wrong. But that's a different post for a different day.

We thought of several different ways to get in: I asked will call what they do with the tickets that don’t get picked up when the rodeo starts thinking we could purchase the ones that don't get picked up. It turns out they can’t resell the tickets, so they have to be trashed. Well, that stinks. We even thought about asking one of the contestants if they could sneak us in, but that would have been weird, so we didn’t. As we were trying to come up with different ideas for the night, something in me told me to keep believing for a way to get in. But after about twenty minutes we started to walk to the car with no way of getting into this rodeo. Frankly, we were all a little bummed.

On our way to the car, we had to walk past the back entrance where the staff and contestants entered. We encouraged one of the girls that were with us to talk to the security person at the door to see if he would let us in. As she walked up to this guy, I prayed out loud, “Jesus, You can make a way where there seems to be no way.” The minute I said the last word, we got the cue… WE WERE IN! And not only were we let in, but we were also let in for free. Y'all. Only God.

That moment was such a special reminder about a couple of things:

  1. God cares about the desires of our heart – even the smallest thing.

  2. God CAN and WILL make the dreams you have a reality you get to live.

No matter what you’re facing today, feeling, or even what seems impossible let me remind you of something: God makes a way where there seems to be no way. It’s something He specializes in. I know sometimes that can be hard to believe when you’re walking through a tough time because I’ve been there too. All you see in front of you are the impossibilities, and you can’t see the way out. Good news is you don’t have to worry about seeing the way out because GOD’S GOT YOU. So, for those times when your faith is running a bit low, here are some scriptures and stories to read to encourage you:

  • He made a way for Abraham by providing a ram, so Abraham didn’t have to sacrifice his son. Genesis 22:9-14

  • He made a way for the Israelites by parting the Red Sea. Exodus 14:13-31

  • He made a way for Daniel by shutting the mouth of the lion. Daniel 6:13-28

  • He made a way for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Daniel 3:12-28

  • He made a way for Paul and Silas by causing an earthquake in the prison making the prison chains fall off. Acts 16:16-40

And He will make a way for you!

I’m praying for you today and believing the absolute best for you.
