Page 13: My Favorite Christmas Traditions

Can you believe Christmas is just two days away?!

I planned on making this post live like two weeks ago, but it feels as if the whole month of December so far has happened in just two days. Seriously, where has the time gone? And can I get it back so I can enjoy the Christmas season more? I think as adults we have to be extra intentional about savoring moments that put us in the Christmas spirit. If we're not careful, Christmas will come and go without it ever feeling like Christmas -- which is not fun. So, I thought what better way to put myself in the Christmas spirit than sharing my favorite Christmas traditions with you all!

1. Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls on Christmas Morning

For as long as I can remember we have bought Cinnabon cinnamon rolls on Christmas eve to enjoy Christmas morning after opening gifts. Now that I'm older, the cinnamon rolls and coffee come BEFORE opening presents because I'm a nicer person after coffee, can I get an amen? This is a tradition I'm excited to continue when I get to have a family of my own.

2. Christmas Cards from Friends & Family

Anyone else has their annual family Christmas pictures taken because your mom is sending out a Christmas card? When I was younger, I thought it was silly, but it's one of my favorite things about the holidays now. I look forward to the Christmas cards from my friends and family. It makes me feel connected to the people that I don't get to see often. It's also fun to compare the current year's pictures to previous years' and see how people have changed.

3. Hallmark Christmas Movies

Y'all. I have a genuine love and excitement for ANY Hallmark movie. I was introduced to the Hallmark channel in middle school thanks to my mom. When someone asks me what my favorite movie is, my response is "any Hallmark movie." The Christmas ones are by far my favorite though. Yes, they all have the same storylines and endings, but that's what makes them so great -- you know you're going to get a happy ending. My DVR is full of Christmas Hallmark movies, so I can rewatch them for as long as my DVR will keep them. You can count on me watching every new one every Christmas season.

4. Decorating the House for Christmas

We're the family that decorates the day after Thanksgiving. There's nothing like having your home decorated for Christmas. Especially at night time when all the lights are on... it's so pretty.

5. My Church's Christmas Production

This is probably one of my favorite things every Christmas. It's always a creative presentation of the Gospel, and it continually leaves me amazed. Every year the productions get better and the best part is most people think they're just attending a fun Christmas production, but they're experiencing Jesus -- the reason why we celebrate Christmas. This Christmas we got to celebrate 377 people coming to Christ! Now that's something to celebrate -- 377 lives forever changed!

6. Seeing a Movie on Christmas Day

Without fail, you will find my family and me at a movie theater on Christmas day after gifts and family time. Now our close friends join us every year and it makes it even more special. I'm thankful for the people who have to work on Christmas day to keep this tradition going after several years. If movie theaters are still a thing when I have kids, you better believe we'll be there on Christmas day!

7. Wrapping Gifts & Giving Gifts

Besides Jesus, this is probably my other favorite thing about Christmas! Gifts are one of my most favorite things, and Christmas is FULL of them! No, Christmas is not about the material gifts, but it is part of the fun of the Christmas season for me. My love language is gifts, but even more than receiving gifts, I LOVE to give them. I love thinking about what I'm going to get each person, shopping for each one (hello online shopping!), and I look forward to people opening their presents. It gives me a joy that I cannot fully explain. Also, if you get a gift from me, 99% of the time it will NOT be in a gift bag. Most of my friends think I'm weird for this, but gift wrapping is a stress reliever for me. I'll often come home from work, make some coffee, put on a Hallmark movie and wrap my little heart away. I don't know what it is -- I love it so much.

8. Mug Exchange

This is a new tradition that I want to start next year because, by the time I had the idea, it was too late to organize. One of my sweet friends I follow on Instagram posted about a Christmas mug exchange, and I loved the idea! Being someone who likes my coffee and gifts, how fitting is that -- a mug exchange with my close friends? It's a win-win!

There you have it, a look inside my Christmas every year! I hope you enjoyed it, maybe even inspired you to start a new tradition with your friends & family?

I love learning about my friends' Christmas traditions, so comment below with one of your favorite traditions! Maybe I'll adopt it as one of mine for next year:)

Believing this Christmas is your BEST one yet! And remember, God loves you so much that He sent you His Son, Jesus.
