Page 33: Your Present Pain is Full of Purpose

Who is the first person you call when something really crappy has happened? Your best friend. The best friends are the ones who show up ready to comfort you. Even better is when they show up with your favorite things in hand… your favorite drink, favorite candy, favorite comfort food, favorite movie, etc.

God is like the best best friend. He is the first to show up--no questions asked--with all of your favorite things in hand.

While I can’t answer the “why” questions of your situation, I can promise you at least one thing: God is in it with you.

How can I promise you that? Because that’s what His Word says. And I can take God at His Word.

Psalm 34:18 (NIRV) says, “The Lord is close to those whose hearts have been broken. He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.”

Hardships are NEVER fun. However, I can walk confidently through any hardship because I know that Jesus will be the first to show up ready to comfort my weary soul. And the best comforters are those who have walked out the same hardship because they know how to encourage you and how to help you.

Jesus is the best comforter because He’s walked it first hand. Whatever the situation, He knows what you’re feeling because He’s been there, done that. He knows your situation better than anyone else and knows how to help you because HE is the answer to your worn out and discouraged spirit.

Jesus is the answer, yet He sits with you in your pain because even though He is the answer, He knows that doesn’t negate the realness of your pain right now. The answer we need doesn’t necessarily mean it takes away the pain in the present moment.

But let me encourage you with this: Your present pain is full of purpose.

Your present pain will give you the resources necessary to help encourage and comfort people who will cross your path later in life… the people who are experiencing the same kind of hardship you never thought you’d get through.

You may be clouded because of your pain at this very moment, but with Jesus walking it out with you your pain has a purpose.

God is in it with you, friend.
